Countering Throat Grab-n-Stab Attackers

Hey Tom, just a quick question…

On KD lesson 13 (KD13 Countering Throat Grab-n-Stab Attackers) – You are parrying under the grabbing arm. However, I was sure we also used to use a cross side down over the throat grabbing arm to break/release the grip on the neck… Is this still an option we should be training?

Hi Paul,
In some cases it is possible to go over the top and achieve a grab-release along the way but quite often it is too easy to get hung up on their arm leaving you in a bad predicament. Furthermore if they grab behind your neck, or change from throat to neck, the Under-arm cross-side down works either way – you can’t go over a back-of-neck grab.
